Guarding

Guarding is a key application of our sheet metal parts and assemblies. Many machinery guarding applications require round or partially round sheet metal parts.   Examples include – shaft guards, gear guards, orbital gear guards, brake housings, engine guards and product flow guards. These full enclosure round guards are made to bolt or otherwise fasten in place to high value castings or fabricated machinery.

Combining our laser cutting and fabrication skills with a metal spun part means we can provide the complete guard ready to fit.

Smaller spun guards (3” to 8” in diameter – 75mm to 200mm) can be made with tight ID tolerance for a slip fit to shafts and housings. Meanwhile, the largest guard we make is about 50” in diameter (1,300mm) and then fabricated into three separate mating parts that bolt into place and to the other sections.

For guarding around rotating parts to protect bearings or wear shafts, tolerances as tight as a total of 0.005” variance may be held on ID or OD features of the spun parts by adding an in-process or subsequent machining step.  This style of part is used for bearing seals and axles.

While many guards rely on our spinning capabilities, some are just multiple component fabrications with curved shapes with bent metal brackets for affixing the guard in place.
